The bill of sale or contract you receive from our
funeral home is divided into three categories.
- Category 1 The service charge from the funeral
home, itemized according to the law as selected
during the arrangement conference.
- Category 2 The merchandise selected by you, i.e.
the casket and burial vault. Law adds Illinois sales
tax of 8.75%.
- Category 3 Additional items offered to you by
the funeral home as cash advances.
For example cemetery charges fall into this category.
At Hann Funeral Home, we work WITH each family to
ensure that payment terms are best for them. While
some funeral homes require payment in full PRIOR to
services rendered, we believe that this can present
an unneeded burden at a difficult time. We do however
request that excessive cash advanced items, be covered
on or before the day of the funeral. Exceptions can
be made, particularly if life insurance is involved.
This is explained in detail in the next section.
Life insurance
The most common form of payment for funerals today
is the proceeds from life insurance policies. We understand
that it can take up to six weeks or longer for beneficiaries
to receive benefits. Because of this, we allow an
additional 30-day grace period for all payments. However,
all accounts must be paid in full within 30 days of
the contract date.
After that time, a bill with any outstanding balance
will be sent. Open communication between the family
and the funeral home is key to avoiding outstanding
credit issues.
Other Forms of Payment
